Writing poetry is not always easy. Sometimes our poems work, seem to write themselves, and shine.
But mostly we write, revise, hesitate, put them aside in a drawer hoping time will provide some kind of germination, even a blossom.
And so we, the ten members of the Leman Poetry Workshop, founded in 2000, try to meet each month to read, share, critique each other’s labours, dispel the doubts and offer encouragement.
We have been together for eighteen years now. Our gatherings in each other’s homes are relaxed and fun as well as learning experiences. We share a passion for this work, this act of putting words together in the way we each do, hoping always to take our poems a step further, nearer to the edge.
As a group, we are standing at an edge now, some of us having moved away, others about to, into new lives, new challenges, still very much bound together through long association, friendship, and respect.
Our shared history will guide us onward in a shared journey ahead.
